Who we are

We are Task Force 3 of Working Group 3, which is the ISO/IEC liaison to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and responsible for much of the technical input to the Machine Readable Travel Documents standard Doc 9303.

Our mission is to:

• promote the Doc 9303 standard in order for countries to meet the 1 April 2010 deadline; and
• provide technical education on Doc 9303.

Working Group 3 comprises technical experts from private companies, international organisations and governments.  These experts are sent as delegates from their respective national standards bodies, such as AFNOR, ANSI, DIN, BSI, SA and SCC.  These experts have generally worked for many years in the security industry and bring expertise in many fields such as engineering, chemistry, programming, law and marketing.

Working Group and its Task Forces meet three to four times a year, and much work goes on in between meetings.  Working Group 3 supports the ICAO Technical Advisory Group on Machine Readable Travel Documents (TAG-MRTD), and in particular its New Technologies Working Group (NTWG).
